Assistant Practitioner

Introduction

This apprenticeship will enable you to develop the specific knowledge, understanding, and skills set to meet the national requirements to bridge the gap between the healthcare support worker and registered health care professional.

It will enable you to deliver hands-on care across a variety of settings. This work-based innovative apprenticeship programme provides an opportunity for you to develop professionally and academically in order to graduate as a competent assistant practitioner and work at Agenda for Change Band 4 / equivalent on qualification.

Assistant Practitoner Foundation Degree (FD Sci)

24 months

Assessed virtually

You will be assessed using a variety of methods including written assignments, reflective accounts, case study presentations, examination, competency documents and the development of a portfolio. In the workplace, your clinical assessment will be undertaken by your facilitator.

This qualification covers a range of topics, such as:

  • Working in health and social care
  • Anatomy and physiology
  • Knowledge and skills for practice
  • Influencing health and social care
  • Communication

As well as the on-programme assessment there will be an End Point Assessment which will be carried out by an external independent assessor. This will include: 

  • Multiple choice and short answer test
  • Observation of practice
  • A learning journal

Level 3 Senior Healthcare Support Worker

The Senior Health Care Support Worker apprenticeship is ideally suited for experienced employees who carry out a range of clinical and non-clinical healthcare or therapeutic tasks, under the direct or indirect supervision of the registered healthcare practitioner.
