The inside track from our apprentices
To give you an insight into what it’s like to do an apprenticeship, we asked colleagues with varied roles and experience levels to give us some inside info. We called these stories the ‘A’ files and you can read them at your leisure.
An apprentice’s journey
Ryan Shortall, started with us as an apprentice in 2018 and he started his second permanent job in the People team on 3 February which was, coincidentally, the first day of this year’s National Apprenticeship week. He told us his story too.
All about apprenticeships
Sarah van der Merwe, Head of Apprenticeships, told us all about apprenticeships, including what ‘20% off-the-job training’ actually means. This year’s ‘Look beyond’ theme is definitely something to think about, especially as we’re coming up to appraisal time.
Through our intranet JAM we held a "Jamchat" on apprenticeships
She also hosted our first 'Jamchat' on 5 February, answering a broad array of questions and providing expert commentary and advice for colleagues considering doing an apprenticeship.
A new apprenticeship
National Apprentice Week also saw TLE introduce our customer service specialist' level 3 apprenticeship. This is for colleagues interested in developing the knowledge and skills to be a key referral point for dealing with more complex or technical customer requests and complaints. This programme will start in September 2020.
