Senior Healthcare Support Worker
Introduction
The Senior Health Care Support Worker apprenticeship is ideally suited for those who carry out a range of clinical and non-clinical healthcare or therapeutic tasks, under the direct or indirect supervision of the registered healthcare practitioner.
You may work in a range of services eg hospital, community, health or day case unit, someone’s home, nursing or care home, assessment centre, school, prison, GP surgery; working in partnership with individuals, families, carers and other service providers.
Level 3 Diploma in Healthcare Support
18 months
Assessed virtually
This qualification consists of 12 mandatory units covering knowledge and skills competencies, with optional specialisms which can be combined in flexible ways to reflect the real working context of different learners.
The mandatory units include (but are not limited to):
- Person centred approaches
- Values and behaviours
- Prevention and control of infection
- Handling information
- Responsibilities of the role
- Health and Safety
- Equality and diversity
Optional units include (but are not limited to):
- Clinical care
- Care of older people
- Learning disability support
- Maternity support
As well as the on-programme assessment there will be an End Point Assessment which will be carried out by an external independent assessor. This will include:
- Multiple choice and short answer test
- Observation of practice
- A learning journal
Apprentices without level 2 English and Maths will need to achieve this level prior to taking the end-point assessment.

Level 4 /5 Assistant Practitioner
This apprenticeship will enable you to develop the specific knowledge, understanding, and skills set to meet the national requirements to bridge the gap between the healthcare support worker and registered health care professional. It will enable you to deliver hands-on care across a variety of settings.
